with the team the Eels have, and the clueless coach, they will battle for the wooden spoon, I hope Manly win that spoon, it is about time for them. No chance of a top 8, sorry to say And haven't replaced Norman and Hayne. 2019 Gains Blake Ferguson (Sydney Roosters, 2021), Shaun Lane (Manly Sea Eagles, 2019), Junior Paulo (Canberra Raiders, 2022), Maika Sivo (Penrith Panthers, 2020) The spoon might be decided half way through the season. Blake Ferguson might have to play halfback!! LOL

I have to say a couple decent pickups, but the Eels need half the rest of the team replaced. If Moses gets injured, Ferguson to halfback and Junior Paulo to 5/8? LOL

Seriously, it's going to be a long year again. I'm predicting Parra will be 0-5 at the start of the season.

better than last season, they are on the improve. Since they are apparently leaving Micheal Jennings in reserve grade the funny thing is Mannah might play center? There arent many centers to choose from.

There arent many centers to choose from. Blake Ferguson centre and wing. He'll have to make up for Tim Mannah. Actually, everything comes down to Ferguson. LOL He must of been paid good money to end up at Parra. Why else would you leave the Roosters.

I think the Eels have to pay over to attract anybody at all. That was not the case in the 80's, even though Fitzgerald ran the place.

In 1984, Manly offered Sterlo or Kenny (can't remember which one) a fortune, but it was turned down to stay at Parra. These days, Parra pays overs for Carl Webb playing on his last leg.

it was Sterlo, who Manly offered a contract to. Funny thing is that Sterlo grew up supporting Manly. Sterlo also may have been the only big name player to knock back a contract with Manly. They always used to get the man at the expense of other clubs. Destroyed Souths, Wests and North Sydney. To a smaller degree Easts and Dragons. Carl Webb the buy of the century, what a joke. Is Carl Webb in your top 100 players list? LOL!!!!!

Is Carl Webb in your top 100 players list? LOL!!!!! Yep, Manly would rip the heart out of another club. That's one of the reasons they were hated. Things were a little different in the mid 70's, if you look at the 1976 Grand Final teams, Manly did have a number of players from the area with one or two imports from England. By the late 70's and early 80's by the time the rules changed, Manly didn't bother relying on their own juniors anymore. Carl Webb wouldn't even make top 300!! LOL

the thing thatn did amaze me about Manly was the fact that a lot of the players they did bring from other clubs to destroy them, the players usually hated Manly, but went to them on at the time big bucks and still performed. I could never understand how everyone they signed always performed well.

I could never understand how everyone they signed always performed well. Could be a number of reasons. I'd say, "everyone hates us" and "us vs. everyone", was a great motivation to play well. Everyone hates Manly, which brought out the best in their players. I remember when Manly played New Zealand in the Grand Final and someone commented, "so we should all support Manly", cause they were the Australian team, coach Des Hasler said, "no way". He knew they played better being hated.

very good point. Des Hasler would know having come from Penrith. Hasler was a good player at Penrith but became great at Manly, and has gone on to be a very good coach. I think Manly will be a better team this year under him. Barrett was probably almost as bad a BA?

Barrett was a terrible coach, but maybe a little better than BA. LOL

BA is the worst, on paper the Eels had a much better team than Manly, still getting the wooden spoon, what does that tell you. Hasler is weird as a coach doesnt seem to be a very dominant person like coaches tend to be, but he sure gets results.

Hasler is weird as a coach doesnt seem to be a very dominant person like coaches tend to be, but he sure gets results. Hasler showed us that day he ripped the door off in the dressing room at Parra Stadium when Manly got run down after leading by 20 points, that he expected results. The Manly players then went on to win a premiership. He hasn't won since Manly, but was coach at the Bulldogs in 2 losing Grand Finals. He's obviously one of those coaches that players respond to. BA is the opposite.
