what amazes me was the Eels of the early to mid 80's had one of the best teams in history, and then in the 90's one of the absolute worsted. How do you figure on that under good management? It comes down to culture, the evil empire have a good culture and the Eels dont. A number of the coaches the Eels have had have tried to change the culture, but the janitor wouldnt even know what culture is. The Eels management never replaced the clubs greatest players. They did not think for tomorrow. Everything in life eventually comes to an end, even the glory years. Manly has a great culture, an "us v them" culture. When the media spoke to Des Hasler in 2011, about Sydney or the entire country supporting the Sea Eagles in the Grand Final against the Warriors, he straight away said, no, no way!! I think that attitude has worked in Manly's favour over the years, "everyone hates us", we need to stick together. The Janitor doesn't even know what time of day it is.

The eels in the late 70's had a sensational junior base come through and showed how good they were in the 80's. The Eels never produced great young juniors after that period and Fitzgerald never tried to build on the talent as they got older and had to retire. We ended up with trash and Fitzgerald lined his pockets.
Even when the evil empire had front office problems they still produced on the field. The Eels need to capture that culture, but that will not happen with the janitor. The janitor can show the players the ropes around the toilets and then he is lost after that. Is the grave digger an Eels man or is he just a suit?

Fitzgerald was a corporate guy with no hunger for success on the field. That's not good enough when running a football club, because what do us fans care about when it comes to the financial side of a club, we just want premierships. Eels only have great culture amongst the fans, a great army of supporters!! Maybe I'm being negative, but I'm thinking the Grave Digger will just be another CEO who produces no success. It's OK if the Rabbitohs, a financial disaster since the early 70's and the Sharks the same with only a small supporter base, experience premiership droughts over 50 years, but that is unacceptable at Parra.

Immortal boost: Eels on verge of adding Johns to coaching staff
Parramatta are on the verge of a major off-season coup as they look to add the eighth Immortal, Andrew Johns, to their coaching staff to help out with the club’s young spine.
NRL.com can reveal the Eels have been in discussions with Johns in the hope of having the former NSW and Australian No.7 working with young gun Dylan Brown, as well as Mitchell Moses, Reed Mahoney and Clint Gutherson.
While the deal isn’t done, Johns has met club officials and it is hoped he will take on the specialist spine consultancy role in the new year to assist coach Brad Arthur in 2020.
Johns has worked with a number of clubs in recent years, including Manly and the Sydney Roosters during their respective dominant reigns, and is regarded as one of the smartest football minds in the business.
The Eels have placed a high priority on the continual development of their young halves, and believe Johns will be particularly beneficial for Brown.
The Kiwi teenager, who the club is in the process of trying to retain long term, showed glimpses of brilliance in an injury-plagued rookie season.
Moses was rewarded for his stellar season by picking up the Dally M halfback of the year award, but would no doubt benefit from having Johns in his corner.
The Eels have Gutherson and Moses under contract until the end of 2022, and are now hoping to secure their spine with the retention of Brown and Mahoney on lengthy deals in the off-season.
After enjoying a successful season in 2017 when they finished in the top four, they collected the wooden spoon 12 months later.
The club has learnt some valuable lessons from that period and, despite a successful 2019, realise they need to continue to change to ensure their improvement.

dont know about Johns??? Was a great player, but that doesnt make you great beyond that. If the eels do sign him I guess time will tell???
Look at all the good CEO's in the NRL, they all have a passion for there club, with a good business background. The only CEO the Eels have had with a passion for the club was Steve Sharp, but he had no business background. he was like a dead man walking.
I agree with you about the Eels fans, a great supporter base that deserve better. I will give the grave digger the benefit of the doubt at present until we see some positive or negative actions. Cant be any worse than weekend at Bernie's. That was a dead man walking.

Dont know how true this is but could be interesting???
Semi Radradra Posted by ParramattaLurker on November 21, 2019 at 8:26pm
Stumbled across this post on one the Eels Facebook groups and it really caught my attention and made some interesting claims.
"Okay believe me If you want to if you don’t I couldn’t care.
I am coaching a Fijian rugby league team for a nines competition. One of the guys is best mates with semi (likely story I know) however when we trained a couple of weeks ago semi called him and they were talking on the phone. It was FaceTime there was proof.
Long story short. Semi is done with rugby union he is homesick. He has proved the point he wants to prove. He wants to come back to Australia and really wants to come back to parramatta. He doesn’t care about the money it means nothing to him. The only reason he went to rugby was because it’s Fiji’s national sport and what he grew up playing and loving.
It’s up to the club if they sign semi. But this I can guarantee you. The only way we miss out on semi is if the club decides not to sign him. It won’t be money related for him to go elsewhere.
This is the reason that Jennings has not he re-signed."
What do you think? Will Semi return to the Eels, if it comes down to a choice who are you choosing Jennings or Radradra?

I got excited about Andrew Johns signing with Parra to help the halves, but then realised he's helped before when Fitzgerald was CEO and no premiership happened. The halves are fine, it's the forwards that need toughening up. Steve Sharp did have passion, but he was a bad choice. Probably had zero business credentials and no university degree. Next CEO in two years time will be a garbo collector. Grave Digger has two years to prove himself!! I'm not expecting much. Semi wants back!! He see's the Eels finals bound and let's be honest, Rugby Union is boring compared to League, whether you're a player or supporter. Semi or Jennings? Jennings is 31 years old, but still playing quality football. Semi is 27 and would add more tries to the Eels attack. Sign both!! If the Roosters can have no salary cap, why can't Parra!!

Eels 2020 Home jersey will be based on the 1986 Premiership jersey.

I really like that jersey. Best looking jersey ever. No other jersey has come close to looking as good.
OK, you give the grave digger 2 years? Actually I do as well, but if he doesnt perform will they boot his ass to the curb? Then the new replacement comes in and low and behold he starts a 5 year plan, just to be different and original, because he doesnt have a clue about the Eels. In the last 20 years the Eels must have had 15, 5 year plans. I know mathematically that doesnt work but the Eels have tried.
When Steve Sharp ran the choice was between him and the asshole associated with the mafia who had illegal business practices, whos name escapes me. There wasnt much choice. I would have picked Steve Sharp under those circumstances.

I think people that are successful make an impression straight away, rather than waiting for them to improve, so basically we'll know soon. The Mafia guy was Roy Spagnola?

yes Roy Spagnola, he was an asshole. He had no interest in a good football team he was all about ego. Sounds a lot like the president of the US. With that surname had to be aligned to the mafia.
You and me might be the only ones to give the grave digger a 2 year plan. Who does the hiring and firing of the CEO? Nobody fired Bernie after his long weekend stay.

How many lousy managers have been at Parra. The list is endless!! Those that have heart, don't have the brain, but those that do have a brain have no heart. Need both when running a football club. The Grave Digger should start digging his own grave, just outside Bankwest, unless he proves me wrong. Eels top 5 moments in 2019 If you can't download 5. King Gutho and Fergo celebrate in style. Don't know how doing backflips while celebrating tries is a top moment? 4. Eels comeback victory against Raiders in Darwin. 3. Eels dominate Bankwest opener. 2. Sivo 2019 top try scorer. 1. Eels 58-0 win against Broncos.

I couldnt see, not able to see in this country. How stupid is that.
We are losing good juniors now under the grave digger, nothing has changed under him at all, and he hasnt even been in the job a month. The crap continues. Why cant they get an Eels man with a brain in his head? There must be someone somewhere? The grave digger can definitely already start digging his own grave, he would be good at that.
Do you by any chance know who does the hiring and firing of CEO's at the Eels? Whoever it is is worthless.

The Cowboys are doing some good signing. Just signed Valentine Holmes, who was a total failure in the NFL but is a good player in the NRL.
