2001 by far hurt the most. They were very short odds to win and were big time favorites. Unfortunately they had a choker. This year they had a dumb turd who was shooting a long way above his weight. He would struggle at high school football. But in all honesty, Eels in all 3 grand finals, '01, '09 and '22 didn't have Hall of Fame players. The opposition teams did and / or eventually will. Not making excuses for those two coaches though, BS was a choker and the janitor not even good enough to be a choker. |

You are correct of course but they still should have won in 2001. Eels made it all the way to the grand final and then panicked. The Knights just took it in their stride. That was the difference. This years Eels were the same, stage fright!! Half the battle on the day is mental. |

The fact the Eels went from inconsistency mid season to winning numerous games towards the end means the Eels making a grand final had nothing to do with the janitor. Similar to Daniel Anderson in '09, but at least Anderson admitted the turn around in performance had nothing to do with him as coach. The janitor hangs everything on the players. |
