The defence was a complete embarrassment. It's to the point as soon as the opposition march downfield from a line break or penalty they score. Where is the on line goal defence? Eels are harder to beat up the middle thanks to a strong forward pack but out wide the Eels are found out. Teams just create an overlap and score. Notice one trick can't convert tries when the pressure is on. If the Eels are winning by plenty he'll kick the goal from the sideline blindfolded. |

That has created very relevant questions over some of their recruitment and retention decisions, with the most notable of those being the exit of Reed Mahoney, only for the club to reportedly spend as much, or potentially more, on Josh Hodgson.

I think the last big name signing was Bob Lindner for the 1997 season and he did not turn out to be all that great and moved on to the Magpies after a few seasons.

The Storm and the Sharks are not doing all that great so far this season but both still beat the Eels. I think the Eels will be in for a reward this season but is the wooden kind of reward.
