there is no bluff to winning the wooden spoon, you literally can not do worse. The guy should have been fired after that season.
Don Lane used to host the Super Bowls in Australia. The lank yank. He did a good job of that. The Bills Giants SB was horrific, it should have been a guaranteed win for the Bills, but they blew it.

I dont understand the logic, the guy is leaving after 2020. Wasted money, it is the norm at the Eels. The grave digger may be proving to be no better than his predecessors.

Wests Tigers-bound rising star Stefano Utoikamanu is a step closer to his NRL debut with Parramatta after the Eels upgraded the young forward to their 30-man squad for 2020.
The NSW under-20 and Australian Schoolboys representative will play out the year for the Eels despite signing a lucrative three-year deal with the Tigers from next season.
Eels general manager of football Mark O'Neill said the upgrade was well deserved.
"Stefano is an exciting young prospect who has been training really well during the pre-season and has earnt this opportunity," O'Neill said.
"He is held in such high regard from his peers and the broader Eels club. We are all looking forward to his contribution throughout this season as we strive to do better than what we achieved last year."
The Eels in November rejected a request for a release from the 192cm, 115kg prop to link with the Tigers immediately.
The 19-year-old, who has been likened to Brisbane's Payne Haas and is regarded as the most promising young player in this year's rookie class.
He will compete with the likes of Junior Paulo, Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Kane Evans, Nathan Brown and Daniel Alvaro for minutes in Parramatta's middle-forward rotation.
Utoikamanu scored the match-winning try for NSW in a man-of-the-match performance in the under 18s Origin game in 2018, backing that up with 149 metres from 11 hit-ups for the Blues in the under 20s victory last year.

Eels shouldn't bother with his debut if he will be leaving at the end of the year. If already experienced and definitely a worthy contributed then OK, but a waste of time having him in the team for just one year. If the Eels don't win more than 60% of their games in 2020, I'll want the sacking of both the janitor and grave digger.

they handled T-Rex the same way, nothing ever changes just a new face with same deficiencies. If they think so highly of the young guy why didnt they tie him up, so nobody else could get him. I hate how the Eels are run. Disaster after disaster is just a daily event for the Eels.
The grave digger is starting to prove he is on the same level as the janitor. They should start a toilet cleaning business together, with one big difference, they will dig graves as well.

They should start a toilet cleaning business together, with one big difference, they will dig graves as well. I watched a game last night from 1985, Eels v Panthers. It was a finals game and the Eels were that good, the club didn't need good management to be successful on the field. Even the coach John Monie was nothing special, the team could coach itself. With experienced players like Price and Cronin and young players Kenny and Sterlo, none of us needed to care about the politics of the club. Today is a different story, those Eels players are not the mature and determined players the club once had. I'll make my mind up about the grave digger by the end of the year, the janitor I have already written off. Just on T-Rex, it's been an absolute disgrace how many players ended up winning premierships at other clubs. I can understand the Andrew Ryan's, they couldn't be kept because the Eels had a good team at the time and a salary cap to abide by, but the Paul Gallen's were just not acceptable.

Unfortunately the Eels did not make the GF in 85, but under Gibson they would have made it and probably won it. John Monie was better than a janitor, but not all that great. He won a GF because that team was one of the best ever.
T-Rex was handled disgracefully back when. Seems nothing has changed, just a different face.

Eels Young Gun On The Verge Of Leaving Posted by Mr Analyst on January 28, 2020 at 8:53am Eels Gun could be Knights Bound The Eels are in danger of losing rising back-rower Toni Mataele to Newcastle next season. The Knights are showing huge interest in the 17-year-old, who is still growing and weighs in at an impressive 105kg. A Parra junior, Mataele has Tongan heritage and represented NSW under 16s in 2018. He has met with new Knights coach Adam O'Brien and the pair established an immediate rapport.
A very common theme with the Eels. Lets develop great players for the whole of the NRL except the Eels?

The ending to 1985 was unexpected, losing 26-0. I'd expect that scoreline from the Eels, the past 20 years, but not the magnificent 80's team. It was only 4-0 at halftime. Another young player about to move on. Although, I guess the Eels can't keep them all due to the salary cap. Today's game is mostly islander's and there would be heaps in the Eels backyard.

Monie was not a great coach, Won a GF due to the team he had rather than his abilities.
As far as I know the young players that teams have dont come under the salary cap unless they are in the top 30 players. I might be wrong but that is my understanding.

We'll never know, but what if the Eels were under Jack Gibson in 1984 & 1985 against the Bulldogs. And if the coaching were reversed, then maybe the Eels would have failed 1981-83 under Monie, but succeeded with Gibson, 1984-86? Gibson definitely had a strong influence on those players. Should have signed him in 1976 and kept him for 10 seasons. Yeah, I'm not sure about the salary cap with the younger players, but the Eels have got to stop losing local talent.

as far as I know teams spend a lot of money on developing juniors, then after spending all that money on there development to have them sign with another club is pure ineptness. The grave digger is proving he aint the man for the job.
If Jack Gibson coached the Eels for 10 years they probably would have won 10 straight GF's. That is how good of a coach he was.

Looks like the trend continues then and this means no premierships anytime soon. Jack Gibson was a legend.

the Eels will have to depend more on recruitment from elsewhere, as they dont retain any juniors, after spending the money to develop them. That is the most stupid setup in the history of the game. Why would you honestly spend the money to develop and then let them move on. Grave digger please move on elsewhere, this position is not for you.

I can see this already, because the Eels have not been successful in a long time. When will the Eels sign or develope a star player?

the grave digger is proving to be average at best, most other club have a competent CEO. It seems an impossible thing to achieve with the Eels. For that matter a coach is pretty hard to come by as well.
