yes they played well, the dogs unfortunately were better on the day. Yes they were. The Bulldogs were very good that year. They won the minor premiership. Mick Cronin kicked 0 from 2. Not blaming Mick, but he failed to convert his own try, and missed a penalty attempt late in the game. |

I have always been of the opinion, you cant blame the goal kicker. They try and get every shot they take but they are only human. After all Mick Cronin was the best goal kicker of his era, the round the corner kickers that are the norm now are better kickers.
I remember when North Sydney signed John Grey from England and he did the round the corner kicking for them, I thought at the time that will never take off, boy was I wrong. I used to b e a goal kicker for the rugby team I played for and I kicked same style as Mick Cronin.

Not really fair on the kicker, when it's a team sport. No player kicks like that anymore, a toe bash kick. And we don't see sand anymore!! Remember when the ball boy would run out with sand in the bucket. Did John Gray invent around the corner? I remember Ross Conlon in the 80's kicking around the corner when most players were kicking like Cronin. |

I dont know if John Grey invented round the corner kicks, but he was the first in the NRL to kick that way. I dont think John Grey was anymore successful than the toe bash kicker at the time, but round the corner kickers are more successful now.

Yeah, kickers over the past 20 years have been more successful. Andrew Johns, Darryl Halligan, Hazem El Mari and Jason Taylor. These kickers had high success rates and broke records. |
