lets face it Rugby League has never been well promoted, unlike AFL which is very professionally done. Melbourne always seemed to have more people into sports than Sydney, but Sydney does have nicer weather as well. More people in Sydney look to do more better weather related things.

Location has a lot to do with Melbourne drawing big crowds. Most of their football suburbs are close to the CBD, so fans don't have far to travel to the MCG which many teams share as their home ground. I've been told that it's very easy to get around the city. Check out the map below. I have circled 5 football suburbs and the two that I haven't - Hawthorn and Essendon, aren't to much further away.

wow, they are really close together. What is the population of Melbourne? The people that live outside of those areas have an array of teams to choose to follow?

Another map below - I have circled 3 more teams that are not far away from the CBD. If you live an hour or two away from the CBD, who would you choose to follow? Sydney has teams 1 - 3 hours away, North, South and West!!

Sydney is definitely more diverse with its teams. The closeness of all those teams is crazy, I think anyway. The NRL should get North Sydney back. Manly really really screwed with them as the Northern Eagles. That was never going to work.

Joined the competition in 1908 and won Premierships in 1921 and 1922, but never again. 1922 - 1999 is a long time!! I thought Parra were bad.

the Bears before they joined up with Manly had some good teams towards the end of there life. I used to enjoy going to North Sydney Oval. I hate how Manly just totally screwed them over, poor Bears. Now they will never win anything in the NRL again.

Now they will never win anything in the NRL again. It was a terrible merger. The Bears and Sea Eagles were arch rivals. They didn't like one another. Even the areas were different. But yeah, I agree, let's blame Manly. LOL

the trouble is that the CEO of the NRL is a Dogs man through and through and they will get away with murder.
