Parramatta withstood a determined second-half effort from the New Zealand Warriors to run out winners 20-12 in their round 19 NRL clash at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland on Saturday evening.
The Eels had led 18-6 at half-time before the Warriors posted a converted try early in the second period to close to within six points.
However, a Mark Riddell penalty goal in the final minute of play put the Eels clear and clinched only their seventh win of the season but fourth in succession.
In addition to Riddell's penalty goal, Jarryd Hayne claimed a double for the Eels while Nathan Hindmarsh and Luke O'Dwyer also crossed for tries. Hayne kicked one conversion.
The Warriors, who lost Brent Webb to injury prior to kick-off, scored tries through Steve Price and Grant Rovelli both of which was converted by Tony Martin.
Hayne opened the scoring for the Eels with two tries within the first 10 minutes of play.
Hayne - who bagged four tries against Newcastle last week - pounced on a loose ball spilt in a tackle by the Warriors' Manu Vatuvei for his first four-pointer before taking an intercept to cross for his second.
Riddell missed both conversion attempts and he was relieved of the duty when Hindmarsh scored the visitors' third try.
Deep within the Warriors' half, Hindmarsh took a flat pass before carrying a defender across the tryline and this time it was Hayne who was asked to add the extras, which he did with ease.
The Eels now led 14-0 and it was not until the 25th minute of the first half that the home side responded when Price crashed over from close range for his fifth try of the season.
Martin converted to close the gap to eight points, but shortly before half-time the Eels added to their lead when O'Dwyer scored an unconverted try.
Despite being down by 12 points at the break, the Warriors started strongly in the second half and were rewarded for their improved intensity when Rovelli scored a fine team try in the 54th minute.
Martin converted to leave the Eels only six points ahead.
The Warriors then came close to scoring midway through the half when Simon Mannering was held up over the line, before the Eels wasted an opportunity to put themselves eight points clear after Riddell missed a regulation penalty goal attempt in the 68th minute.
The final 10 minutes saw tired and desperate Eels defence attempt to hold out the Warriors and their efforts proved to be successful.
In the final minute of play, the Warriors consigned themselves to defeat when they gave away a penalty to allow Riddell to add two points, which pushed Parramatta out of the reach of their opponents.
