Eels interchange hooker PJ Marsh has been cleared of a serious neck injury after being stretchered off during Parramatta's gutsy win against Cronulla last night.
The former Warrior, who has suffered a series of neck problems and returned to rugby league this year after two years away from the game, was taken off in a neck brace on a medicab after an attempted tackle on Sharks prop Jason Stevens in the 57th minute.
Marsh appeared to put his head in the wrong place in making the tackle, but Stevens was put on report for the incident, with referee Steve Clark saying, on the advice of video referee Mick Stone, that Stevens "led with the knee."
Marsh suffered only concussion in the tackle and was walking around the change room minutes later and phoning family members to tell them he was fine.
"PJ copped a bump on the head and has been taken to Baulkham Hills hospital, but I think the word there is precautionary," Parramatta coach Brian Smith said.
"He's gone there with Daniel Wagon [who sustained a neck injury] to see the full extent of the injury but PJ should be fine."
The main injury worry coming from Parramatta's third win in a row was centre Timana Tahu, who left the field in the 56th minute when he was bulldozed by Paul Gallen in a 50-metre try.
Tahu played easily his best game since swapping from Newcastle at the start of the year before suffering a dislocated left elbow. He will be out indefinitely.
Rookie Parramatta halfback Tim Smith, who enjoyed a comprehensive points victory over Sharks skipper and NSW No.7 Brett Kimmorley, was a key figure in Parramatta's early blitz.
"It was mind-blowing some of the stuff he was doing tonight," coach Smith said.
"He has been easing his way into the club ... I've been saying to him for a few weeks now he was due for a good game and he was unbelievable tonight."
After a disappointing game in Origin I on Wednesday - in which he played below his usual high standards and threw an intercept pass for Maroons utility Matt Bowen to score the matchwinning try in golden-point extra time - Kimmorley tried to spark the Sharks early in the second half, after they had trailed 16-0 after 19 minutes and 22-0 at half-time.
Kimmorley played a leading hand in tries by David Peachey, Keith Galloway and Gallen between the 43rd and 56th minutes as the home side fought back to be just 22-16 behind.
"I didn't come here tonight feeling like I had anything to prove," Kimmorley said. "Often if you try too hard you don't play well.
"We tried to be too pretty. In the second half we just tried to come out and have some fun and that's when it worked for us."
The Eels steadied their ship with tries by Eric Grothe and Mark Riddell to hold out for a deserved win.
