Round 15, 1991: Parramatta 34 d Easts 12
Official Yearbook of the NSWRL
Premiership also-rans Parramatta put a huge dent in the semi-final plans of Easts when they thumped the Roosters 34-12 at the Football Stadium. With a top five position still in the offing, Easts had everything to play for, but it was Parramatta who looked final five material with a carefree outpouring of attacking class. It was the Eels' third win from as many starts and signs were emerging that the club were at last turning around what had been a disastrous season. As per usual, Brett Kenny was in charge of operations and he launched a stunning first half onslaught which left Easts in tatters. At halftime it was 20-2 and despite a quick response from Easts five-eighth Brendan Hall, Parramatta cruised away with two more second half tries. Props Peter Johnston and Greg Drake provided up front authority - the missing X-factor for Parramatta for much of the season and talented backline men Jason Bell, Scott Mahon, Glen Liddiard and Michael Erickson carried on the handiwork. "We've picked up our defence and confidence has continued to build," said a jubilant Kenny after the Eels' best win of the season. In a grossly disappointing effort from Mark Murray's Roosters, only Steve Georgallis and rookie winger Jeff Orford showed anything of their true form.
