Round 14, 1990: Parramatta 42 d Easts 12
Official Yearbook of the NSWRL
Easts' horror run of losses continued when Parramatta thrashed them 42-12 at Henson Park. The Eels looked set for a worrying afternoon when Easts' lock Hugh McGahan linked with second-rower Trevor Gillmeister who scored off a simple scrumbase move after 10 minutes. But after a dressing down from skipper Peter Sterling the Eels regained some composure and soon took control of the match. At halftime they led 14-6, and 32-6 just 15 minutes later. For winger Scott Mahon it was like a training session. He kicked nine goals from 10 attempts as well as scoring a try - a contribution of 22 of the 42 points. No-one at Parramatta was getting carried away with the magnitude of the win. The general reaction was that the Eels had reduced themselves to Easts' level and consequently their execution and their intensity was down. In the end it came down to Parramatta needing to win a whole lot more than Easts.
