Round 12, 1990: Parramatta 24 d Canterbury 4
Official Yearbook of the NSWRL
Parramatta continued their stunning surge to the top end of the premiership ladder with a 24-4 hiding of one-time competition leaders Canterbury. Again the well-established firm of Peter Sterling and Brett Kenny were instrumental in so much of the Eels' attack. It was the third match the pair had been reunited at the scrumbase. Significantly, the side had won all three matches. Coach Mick Cronin said the young Parramatta outside backs had been at one stage overawed by the presence of the two greats inside them, but were by now benefitting fully from their array of skills. Fullback Glen Liddiard, 20, had one of his finest nights in the blue and gold. He looked dangerous every time he touched the ball and picked up a try to boot. Alongside him, Brian Jackson, Danny Crnkovich and Scott Mahon also picked up tries, the end result of Sterling's and Kenny's handiwork. Concern after the match centred on Matt Goodwin, who was concussed, and Kenny, who suffered a depressed cheekbone. Canterbury had slumped to their third successive defeat and clearly missed the all-round skills of injured five-eighth Terry Lamb.
