Round 10, 1990: Parramatta 22 d St George 12
Official Yearbook of the NSWRL
St George's happy homecoming to Kogarah Oval was ruined by an enthusiastic Parramatta side who played some of their best football of the season to record a 22-12 win. Saints' new grandstand was packed and the outer was filled to capacity for the Dragons' first game of the season at 'home', and they were expected to turn on the entertainment for their army of fans. But St George were, for the most part, lethargic, allowing the Parramatta pack enough room to set play up for the classy backline men, Peter Sterling and Brett Kenny. The wily pair, together again at half and five-eighth, assured the speedy outside backs would have a field day, and that's just how it turned out, particularly for centre Brian Jackson. Thriving on their service, Jackson scored three tries to lift his all-grades tally for 1990 to 15 - from just nine games. Saints scored two late tries (Scott Gourley and Ron Williams) but the match was dead and gone by then. Origin representative Brad Mackay was one of the few Saints' players who played to their best. He ran onto the ball powerfully all day, kicked well and got through a large share of defence especially after he was moved back into the forwards.
