Round 5, 1990: Parramatta 23 d Newcastle 0
Official Yearbook of the NSWRL
Parramatta achieved what few other teams had managed at Newcastle's International Sports centre, supremacy over the Knight's rampaging forward pack. The Knights, under coach Allan McMahon, had built an impressive record of forward domination, particularly at home, but the Eels laid Newcastle's tough reputation bare with the 23-0 victory. Off-season buy Matt Goodwin inspired the win, charging forward all afternoon and receiving strong support from team-mates Craig Izzard, Mark Horo, Mark Laurie and Greg Drake. And Peter Sterling chipped in with a committed defensive effort which netted him 24 tackles. Newcastle second-rower Paul Harragon was not looking for excuses for the defeat. "We knew the onslaught was coming," he said. "We thought we were ready."
