Round 3, 1990: Parramatta 11 d Norths 10
Official Yearbook of the NSWRL
A 35-metre field goal by Peter Sterling proved the ultimate difference in an absorbing contest between Parramatta and Norths at Parramatta Stadium. The Eels won the match 11-10, but scored only one try to Norths' two and were lucky to escape with their second win of the season. An uncharacteristic Sterling missed tackle 12 minutes from fulltime produced a try for rookie forward David Fairleigh but fullback Paul Conlon missed the conversion and Parramatta breathed again. The turnaround in Norths' performance from their stumbling, bumbling win over Wests a week earlier was incredible. The discipline in the side was first rate in both defence and attack, and coach Steve Martin said later he could not fault his side. Despite his blemish, Sterling was Parramatta's best, while rival halfback Jason Martin pulled off some remarkable cover defensive tackles and shone for the Bears.
