Round 20, 1989: Parramatta 30 d Norths 6
Official Yearbook of the NSWRL
A sizzling performance from the mercurial Brett Kenny sparked a big win for Parramatta in this Saturday night match. Kenny exhibited all the skills that have placed him in the ranks of the all-time greats as he cut Norths apart in the 30-6 win. After the match coach John Monie declared him the most talented player he had ever seen. "Sterling could out think Brett, but no-one could out play him," Monie said. Kenny scored a try and set one up for Craig Izzard in the second half. In between times he exploded into the slightest gaps and completed 15 tackles. Izzard, one of the big improvers of 1989, was another Eel to stand out in a good team performance. Norths, after a win over Manly, were back to their old ways; losing possession regularly, falling off tackles and failing to drop on the loose ball.
