Parramatta, hit by an injury crisis, used their available resources to the fullest to down a disappointing Eastern Suburbs 12-8 at the Stadium.
With Peter Sterling still sidelined along with Geoff Bugden, Rod Slater and Brian Jackson, the Eels were hit hard during the game, losing Peter Wynn and Craig Izzard.
But the Eels responded to the crisis and outplayed Easts in all phases of play.
Fullback Andrew Leeds and winger Jeremy Ticehurst were allowed plenty of room to move and launched raid after raid at Easts' line.
Leeds missed four shots at goal, but ran and kicked with style throughout.
Easts lacked direction and fell into constant error. With just three wins from eight matches, their semi-final hopes were already looking shaky.
Redeeming feature of the match for the Roosters was the form of fullback Rod Silva, who later played his way into the City Firsts team.
