Round 2, 1989: Parramatta 30 d Wests 10
Official Yearbook of the NSWRL
Parramatta overcame a spirited and enthusiastic Western Suburbs to score their second win of the season. Wests held a 10-6 lead at halftime after a neat try to talented fullback Danny Peacock and the margin could have been greater except for a number of squandered opportunities. But the Eels, with halfback Peter Sterling directing much of the attack, wore down the Magpies as the second half progressed and finally ran away with the game in the closing stages. It was a cruel fate for Wests who showed such enterprise early on. Parramatta centre Tony Cosatto threw a giant scare into everyone watching when he was knocked out midway through the second half, a minute after replacing David Woods. He began to choke on his mouth guard and only the quick thinking of Wests captain Cameron Blair prevented a potentially more serious injury. Cosatto made a full recovery and Blair later earned an official commendation for his actions.
