Round 22, 1988: Parramatta 16 d Wests 12
Official Yearbook of the NSWRL
Parramatta ended their most frustrating season in recent history with a narrow win over Wests, before a healthy crowd of 12,683 at the Eels' Stadium. Coach John Monie put the win down to an extra slice of luck, a factor missing from the club in '88. Injuries robbed the team of most of its class players. Sterling, Grothe, Kenny, Lindner were all sidelined for long periods, and their presence would have made a significant difference to the Eels' fortunes. Both sides scored two tries, with Steve Ella's four goals, swaying the match Parramatta's way. Halfback Paul Taylor was a last round star for Parramatta. His constant involvement in this game, and in most games for the Eels in '88, was a definite plus in a year of disappointment. For Wests, fullback Danny Peacock was often dangerous in possession and he received good support from young forwards David Woods and Ian Howcroft.
