Round 14, 1988: Parramatta 12 d Easts 8
Official Yearbook of the NSWRL
With both sides seemingly out of contention for the semi finals, Parramatta and Easts turned in one of the least entertaining matches of the '88 season. At least it was close. The players showed little purpose in attack and squandered countless opportunities with wandering concentration. Parramatta were hard hit by an influenza epidemic sweeping through their camp and lost Brett Garnon, Michael Moseley and Paul Taylor before the match. It was not excuse enough for 26 players who dropped the ball, threw ill-directed passes and seemingly lost their way to the tryline for 90 percent of the match. One redeeming feature was a classy try to Parramatta fullback Mick Delroy shortly after halftime. He ran from dummy half, chipped over fullback Gary Wurth's head and won the race for the ball in a 35-metre movement.
