Round 8, 1988: Parramatta 40 d Canberra 12
Official Yearbook of the NSWRL
Parramatta produced the one king-sized upset of round 8 with the nature of their slashing 40-12 win over Canberra. The Eels maintained their undefeated home record against the Raiders, thanks mainly to yet another superb performance by halfback Peter Sterling. Sterling carried a painful corked thigh into the match, but still directed play with all his usual guile and finesse. He tormented the previously high-flying Canberra side with every skill in the book. With the Australian half in such touch, his team-mates revelled in the service he provided. Lock Paul Taylor scored a club record equalling four tries, and Bob Lindner, playing in the uncustomary position of second row scored two in a dazzling return to top form. The Eels, after five losses on the trot, seemed well and truly back from the dead.
