Round 15, 1987: Parramatta 35 d Wests 16
Official Yearbook of the NSWRL
They may have scored five tries and seven goals but Parramatta showed few qualities that indicated a semi-final team when they beat Wests 35-16. It was a depleted Eels' side that struggled for much of the match to overcome the lowly rated Magpies. Parramatta, without Kenny, Sterling, Lindner, Ella, Grothe, Bugden and Taylor, allowed Wests back into the game at 22-16 at the 60 minute mark after earlier building up a 20-4 lead. Parramatta's forward defence, so often their stumbling block this season was a constant worry, and plucky Wests hooker Allan Fallah scored the 'softest' of tries when he burrowed his way over from dummy half early in the match. Encouraging for Parramatta was the form of youngsters Brian Jackson (three tries) and Danny Crnkovich (two tries). Coach John Monie later labelled the two as cornerstones for the future of the Parramatta club. Eels centre John Muggleton landed seven goals from eight attempts and kicked a field goal.
