Round 12, 1987: Parramatta 21 d St George 20
Official Yearbook of the NSWRL
A see-sawing, thrill a minute game provided an ending of stunning impact. Parramatta's John Muggleton, for one, will never forget it. With just five seconds left on the clock, and the scores locked at 20-all, Muggleton steadied himself - and kicked an amazing 42 metre field goal. It was the kick of a lifetime. Disbelief - from both teams - was the response....and Parramatta had won the day. The kick marked an incredible ending to an incredible afternoon. Parramatta started the day with only 12 men after wing star Eric Grothe had slipped on a concrete 'race' behind the grandstand, and twisted a knee. Bad start...perfect ending. In between times there was much fine football with St George holding the lead throughout the first half, and Parramatta setting the pace in the second - up until the 73rd minute, when Geoff Selby made it 20-all with a try. Standout games from Bob Lindner, Brett Kenny, Brian Johnston and Steve Robinson were the big features.
