Round 25, 1982: Parramatta 25 d Norths 5
Ray Price again showed his courage and incredible class to spearhead Parramatta to a crushing 25-5 win over North Sydney at North Sydney Oval on Sunday.
A league record crowd at the ground of 16,895 watched the premiers become the first side this season to beat the Bears at home.
It seems hurdles are placed in front of Jack Gibson's side merely to provide another challenge.
There can be no doubt they are very much still the side to beat in the premiership.
The win on Sunday shot them four points ahead of their nearest rivals and it now seems a formality for the blue and golds to ring up premiership number two.
Norths were simply outclassed in all departments as Parramatta put up their giant defensive net and worried Norths into errors.
And the Bears made plenty allowing Price, Ella, Kenny and Sterling to turn defence into immediate attack.
Price fought off a bad head injury to again dominate proceedings, scoring two tries, attacking strongly throughout and tackling like a demon.
Big winger Eric Grothe also impressed and he grabbed two tries in a powerhouse display which must have impressed the Kangaroo selectors.
The speed of Kenny and Ella coupled with the high work load of Phelan and Wynn capped off a fine all round performance by Parramatta.
Stand-in hooker Ron Hilditch played for 65 minutes and fully proved his fitness following his long layoff because of a groin injury.
Parramatta had the game won in a two minute period close to halftime when Price and Grothe scored tries. This enabled them to go to the break with a 15-5 lead.
And Parramatta were led in grand style by Mick Cronin who was a replacement skipper for the injured Steve Edge.
Parramatta 25 (E.Grothe 2, R.Price 2, S.Ella tries, M.Cronin 5 goals) defeated Norths 5 (D.McKinnon try, L.Kelly goal). Referee: J.Gocher. Crowd: 16,895.
