Round 16, 1977: Parramatta 24 d Souths 23
Big League Magazine 16th - 22nd July, 1977
South Sydney nearly pulled off the upset of the season when they went within one point of beating Parramatta at Redfern last Sunday. Parramatta won 24-23, although they scored only four tries to Souths' five. A conversion attempt from the sideline by Brian Wall, after the bell, swung wide of the posts. Souths appeared to race to a winning 20-12 lead midway through the second half. They had come from 5-10 down at halftime to turn on some of their best football this year. Parramatta hit back with two tries to lead 24-20. But in the final minute George Piggins scored in the corner to give Wall his chance to win the game for Souths. Mick Cronin kicked six goals for the Eels to go with his nine for NSW on Saturday.
SCRUMS: Souths 12-10. PENALTIES: 9-all.
