1975 Wills Cup Final: Parramatta 11 d Manly 5
On 21st March 1975, the Eels finally won a first grade title, beating the star-studded Manly 11-5 in the Saturday night Wills Cup final before a crowd of 12,460.
The presentation on the sideline could not be heard above the cheering of the Eels fans who had converged on the area. Parramatta, who finally had a reliable goalkicker in left-footed Dave Cotter, and the Sea Eagles scored one try each but Cotter's four goals proved the difference. Bob O'Reilly missed the match through injury but the evergreen Denis Pittard led the side magnificently. The Eels led 6-5 at halftime with goals from Cotter giving Parramatta a slight edge. Parramatta's winger John Vincent scored late in the match to seal the historic victory. Graham Eadie scored Manly's points with a try and a goal.
The Wills Cup had been run on a knock-out basis for the first time and after the final, Rugby League Week editor Geoff Prenter wrote: "They (Parra) reached great heights and looked a 20-point better side than at any stage last year."
