Schick Hydro Preview: Sydney Roosters v Parramatta Eels Allianz Stadium Sunday, 4pm
The horrors of 2016 are a distant memory for the Roosters and Eels who have jumped out of the blocks to be well entrenched in the Telstra Premiership top eight after nine rounds.
The Roosters sit in a four-way tie for second but could have found themselves just a win behind pacesetters the Storm had it not been for a late Shaun Johnson penalty goal in their last-start loss across the ditch.
A four-game losing streak threatened to derail Parramatta's campaign but they have since steadied the ship with wins over the Tigers, Panthers and Cowboys.
Roosters centre Latrell Mitchell replaces Shaun Kenny-Dowall (who has been stood down) while Mitchell Aubusson regains his starting spot in the back row, pushing Aidan Guerra to the bench.
Eels coach Brad Arthur has made no changes to the side that won in Townsville.
Why the Roosters can win: It might not be as intimidating a venue as suburban grounds such as Leichhardt Oval or Lottoland, but the Roosters have been able to turn Allianz Stadium into a fortress whenever they face the Eels. Parramatta have struggled at the Moore Park precinct with five straight losses – two of those against the Tigers – while they've lost their past three against the Roosters by a combined score of 134-22.
Why the Eels can win: When Parramatta's left edge is on, there isn't a defensive unit out there capable of stopping the likes of Corey Norman, Michael Jennings and Semi Radradra. The trio are all ranked in the club's top four for line breaks, Jennings and Norman are first and second for tackle breaks, Radradra and Norman are top three for tries scored while the trio have combined for nine try assists. If the Parramatta forwards can win the midfield battle then expect some carnage out on the left flank.
The history: Played 129; Roosters 62: Eels 62; Drawn 5. The Tricolours have dominated this match-up in recent times with Trent Robinson's men claiming seven wins from their past 10 matches against the Eels. Parramatta have won two of the past three meetings, but two of those were at Pirtek Stadium.
What are the odds: Sportsbet customers are fairly keen on Parramatta with the points start here. The head-to-head market sees 25 per cent more money on the Eels but not many punters are brave enough to take them 13-plus in the winning margin market. Latest odds at Sportsbet.com.au.
Match officials: Referee: Grant Atkins. Assistant referee: Gavin Reynolds. Sideline officials: Chris Butler and Rohan Best.
Televised: Channel 9 – Live coverage from 3:30pm. Fox Sports 2 – Live coverage from 4pm.
NRL.com predicts: This shapes as a classic four-point game that has plenty of top eight implications with teams near them on the ladder also facing off this weekend. The Roosters can jump into the top four with a win while the Eels would likely surrender their spot in the top half with a loss. This should be toss-of-the-coin affair, but we'll lean towards the home team in a tight one. Roosters by 4.

The Roosters have rocketed into the Telstra Premiership top four with a dominant 48-10 win over the Eels who will be sweating on the fitness of Corey Norman after the halfback limped off 10 minutes into the second half.
The Maroons hopeful was caught awkwardly in a Jared Waerea-Hargreaves tackle and appeared in immediate discomfort before the trainers opted to take him up the tunnel.
Norman's injury added to Parramatta's woes with the men in blue and gold totally outclassed by a rampant Roosters side that piled on four tries in a near-faultless first half at Allianz Stadium.
Waerea-Hargreaves was immense for the Tricolours, running for 188 minutes in an opening 54-minute stint, while wingers Daniel Tupou and Blake Ferguson combined for five tries to help the Roosters go third on points differential.
Sent back to reserve grade to rediscover his form, it took Roosters centre Latrell Mitchell just four minutes to mark his return to the NRL with a powerful try which he celebrated in style to honour Indigenous Round.
Another break by Mitchell put the Roosters straight back on the attack, and following an Eels indiscretion, Michael Gordon slotted a simple penalty goal against his former side to put the hosts ahead by eight.
The razzle-dazzle Roosters then moved further in front when some enterprising play by Waerea-Hargreaves was backed up by Mitchell Pearce who delivered an inside pass to send Jake Friend over for his first try of the season.
A monster shot by Nathan Brown on Dylan Napa sparked the Eels into life, with the men in gold pegging one back through cult hero Clint Gutherson who supported a Michael Jennings bust to score in the left corner.
Another penalty goal to Gordon pushed the lead out to two converted tries before Daniel Tupou scooped up a terrible Kenny Edwards pass and raced away to make it 22-4 after 31 minutes.
There was simply no stopping the red-hot Roosters who added to their tally four minutes before the break when Luke Keary delivered a pinpoint pass to send Blake Ferguson over for their fourth try of the half.
Any thoughts of a second-half comeback were immediately quashed when a Mitchell offload instigated a free-flowing passing movement that ended up in the hands of Tupou who leapt over for his second of the afternoon.
Former Rooster Michael Jennings stepped his way through several would-be defenders to end Parramatta's scoring drought in style only for Ferguson to restore his side's sizable advantage with a powerful effort in the right corner.
Ferguson then turned provider as he leapt highest to bat Pearce's cross-field kick into the path of Joseph Manu who strolled over before the pair traded roles for the Kangaroos winger to spectacularly complete his hat-trick.
Roosters 48 (Blake Ferguson 3, Daniel Tupou 2, Latrell Mitchell, Jake Friend, Joseph Manu tries; Michael Gordon 8 goals) def. Eels 10 (Clint Gutherson, Michael Jennings tries; Clint Gutherson 1 goal) at Allianz Stadium. Half-time: 28-4. Crowd: 10,467.
