Former Moree forward played three seasons for Queanbeyan under Don Furner before signing with Norths in 1981. Jurd had already represented Country against Queensland, NZ and Great Britain and was quick to make his mark in the Sydney premiership. Mobile for a prop forward, he shifted to Parramatta in 1983, playing for NSW as well as in the club's grand final win over Manly. Following Parramatta's loss to Canterbury in the 1984 grand final, the remainder of Jurd's career was injury-plagued.
