it sucks when the team you support only breaks records that you dont want to know about. The 2001 GF was a game of 2 halves as well, the trouble was that the Eels were too far behind at halftime. I think you'll find the Knights took their foot off the accelerator after halftime cause they were so far in front, which helped the Eels comeback. The difference between the teams in that game did not reflect on the scoreboard. Very similar to the 1985 grand final, the most one sided grand final with a close final score line. Dragons were never going to win, a 7-0 lead to the Bulldogs early in the second half was a winnable lead based on the Bulldogs solid defence.

I agree with you about the Knights. The second half did show how good of a team the Eels were though. Only the choker could have lost that game, the Eels were just amazing that year. I dont know why they would not have tried harder to sign Jason Taylor for at least one more season. That would have been the ineptness of the emperor.

The 2001 grand final loss was that bad the Eels weren't competitive for another three years. Eels were never a club that lost a grand final, but came back the following year and won. Other clubs have done that, Panthers, Bulldogs and Sea Eagles in the 90s.

You mention the 3 most successful clubs in the Sydney region for the past 30 years. the Eels should be right there as well but due to mismanagement are a joke of the NRL.

Eels always had the makings of a successful club, but couldn't deliver after the glory years. Closest they got was a pretty good coach in Brian Smith, but who was a major choker at the end of the year. Eels were very competitive, 1997-2005, but wasn't to be. Need another coach that can lift the players, but go one better.

If they get Anderson again I seriously would not complain. He has brains and has proven to be a good coach. Even got the Warriors to the GF. This dumbass flushing fool is just that a fool.

Last we've heard of Daniel Anderson - On 30 January 2019, it was revealed that Anderson had joined the Sydney Roosters in a recruitment role. Before Anderson was allowed to join the club, the Eastern Suburbs outfit had to convince the NRL that he was a fit and proper person befitting registration. An NRL spokesman said Anderson had been approved to join Easts with some restrictions on his role after two years out of the game.
The Eels were the last club he coached. Surprising no club took him on after the Eels.

I knew we would never see him at the Eels again, but what a breath of fresh air he would be after a fool known as the flusher. Good move by the Roosters actually, he would be able to spot young talent.

Used mostly as a bench player, but was still part of a winning team. Nobody achieves success at the Eels!! Hindmarsh, Cayless, Burt and Hayne were all good enough to be worthy winners, but never could at the Eels. I guess they'll go into the same category as Ben Elias, Paul Sironen, Steve Roach and Wayne Pearce. Steve Rogers too.

There sure a lot of great players that never won a premiership. The problem with being an Eels player for life is you never win the ultimate goal.

Gutherson will be the only evil empire junior that was a success at the Eels.

Gutherson will be the only evil empire junior that was a success at the Eels. Eagles don't have many juniors. Steve Menzies was a decent junior. Eels have plenty more juniors and let many slip through the cracks. Still can't get over Paul Gallen not being an Eel. Premiership winning captain.
