Magpies were good when Roy Masters was coach. Late 70s!! Fibro's vs Silvertails. Manly won premierships in the 70s, but Magpies could only make the finals. |

I think the late 70's and 80's when Eeels made GF's was what helped grow the supporter base. The problem is that they have never lived up to the wonder years in any other decade.

Closest was Bran Smith but he always choked. In his defense he never had the game's best player. Jack Gibson had a team full of stars. |

Should have won 2001 but Hagen did the better job. Hagan had Andrew Johns and an opposition that freaked out. Eels were good that year but lacked success. Knights had won in 1997 and still had players from that year. |

Knights only won in 97 because half the teams went to Super League. I remember the newsagent at Westmead train station that year and the headline was Super Bowl - Broncos vs Sea Eagles, but the Knights won the ARL a few weeks later. |

I would put good money on the Broncos beating the Knights if that happened. Should have happened. The '97 ARL grand final was definitely in the top 10 grand finals of all time. The super league '97 grand final was boring and one sided. |

Totally agree with you. I really wanted the Knights to beat the evils. When Darren Albert scored the winning try, I was jumping up and down celebrating and hugged my ex. Even she knew what that Knights win meant, a grand final loss to Manly. |
