EELS TO WIN THE PREMIERSHIP Ding, dong the witch is dead. The longest NRL premiership drought is set to end in 2022 with the Eels winning their first title since 1986, some 36 years ago. On paper the Eels have had the least disruption to their squad from last season, even though they have a plethora of stars set to leave the club in 2023. Reed Mahoney, Marata Niukore, Isaiah Papali’i and Oregon Kaufusi are headed for greener pastures in 2023, while Dylan Brown and Ryan Matterson are no certainties to stay long term. However every one of these players is on the books for 2022 and so the stars are aligning for one last shot at breaking the premiership hoodoo before the old band breaks up. Mitchell Moses and Brown are another year into their halves partnership and Clint Gutherson will be supported by Junior Paulo in the captaincy role, which should free him up to get back to his best at fullback. The biggest issue the Eels have is their lack of wingers with Haze Dunster out for the year and Maika Sivo gone until mid-season, but if they can add Brisbane flyer Jamayne Isaako they should have enough depth to weather the storm until the flying Fijian returns. No one wants to see another Storm or Roosters Grand Final win so let’s swing for the fences and get long-suffering Parramatta fans dancing in the streets come October. Did some vege Eels fan write this? OK, maybe Bunnies will be weaker this year, but Panthers and Storm with Roosters are all ahead of the Eels. And no mention of a dud coach.

Gold Coast is a vacation resort not a football town. I am sure some of the locals are into the NRL but what percentage I have no idea. Even the Sharks have won a title since the last Eels win. The Warriors will win a title before the Eels next and they are the bigget underachievers ever. Everyone is doing booze and dope on the Gold Coast, they wouldn't know football. Very small supporter base. Raiders will win before the Eels too. Came close a few years ago.

EELS VS ROOSTERS GRAND FINAL Picking the premiership winners each season is hard enough let a lone both grand finalists, given the amount of variables with injuries and suspensions each season. However on paper the Eels and the Roosters are shaping as the most formidable two squads in the NRL and if they can finish in the top two they will likely meet in the decider in October. The Roosters are coming off a torrid season with injuries and retirements but they still managed to finish fifth despite running out plenty of reserve grade players in 2021. The Roosters youngsters would have learned plenty from the experience and with the return of star player Luke Keary and Lindsay Collins, coach Trent Robinson will have them primed for a revenge mission this season. The Eels have a similarly strong squad despite some issues on their wings due to injury, but Brad Arthur will have them primed to take advantage of their premiership window before it shuts at the end of the year. The Storm and the Panthers will be leading contenders again in 2022 and will likely be the other two sides in the top four, but we are tipping the Eels and the Roosters to make it all the way to the last game of the season. LOL A one trick pony will never win an equestrian.

they are all the biggest load of garbage written by any somewhat respectable journalist. I dont know that any of the journalists that report on the NRL are respectable, because they never mention the most glaring problem with the Eels or maybe dont even recognize it.

Match Officials
Referee: Ben Cummins Senior Review Official: Ashley Klein Last updated: 10:31 pm Wednesday 23rd February 2022 Panthers: The Panthers will look to build on the momentum of last week's impressive victory when they add premiership players Jarome Luai, Stephen Crichton, Api Koroisau, Brian To'o, Viliame Kikau, Moses Leota, Spencer Leniu and Scott Sorensen to the mix for the local derby against Parramatta.
Sean O'Sullivan looked all class against the Sharks and he'll call the shots from halfback alongside Luai. Another of last week's standouts, Mavrik Geyer, gets another chance to show his wares from the bench.
Eels: Clint Gutherson and Junior Paulo will co-captain the Eels for the first time as Brad Arthur's men continue their build-up to a round one clash with the Titans.
Gun playmakers Mitch Moses and Dylan Brown take over from Jake Arthur and Jordan Rankin while Sean Russell comes into the starting side after Haze Dunster's season-ending knee injury.
In the pack, Isaiah Papali'i and Reagan Campbell-Gillard line up for their first game of the season while Ryan Matterson moves into the starting side at lock.
Nathan Brown injured his leg in pre-season but is expected to be fit for round one while Wiremu Greig (calf) will sit out this week but should also be right for the season opener.

they are all the biggest load of garbage written by any somewhat respectable journalist. I dont know that any of the journalists that report on the NRL are respectable, because they never mention the most glaring problem with the Eels or maybe dont even recognize it. Eels in 2001 beat the Lockyer and Bennett Broncos in the preliminary final 24-16, a Brisbane team that won the premiership the year before. Eels last year didn't get anywhere near the grand final against opposition not in the same class as that Broncos outfit. This is how I judge the current team. The current team and coach are also not anything like the Eels 2009 team, another Eels grand final team that won finals convincingly.

It is hard to make an example of the 2009 team. Early in the year they were horrific, as the season went along the Eels got better and better and Hayne was outstanding, Unfortunately it didnt continue in the GF against cheats. It goes to show it is hard to beat cheats.

It goes to show it is hard to beat cheats. Still a decent team though, cause an ordinary team would never make a grand final - just ask Scott Mahon, Stu Galbraith and Cameron Blair. I'm still traumatised by the early 90s. The current team has some decent players, Gutherson, Mahoney and Paulo but still lacking creativity in attack to not just win finals footy, but convincingly. Struggled against the injured Knights last year.
