Rabbitohs v Eels: Bunnies unchanged; Hayne swaps to wing
It was first versus last when they met in round 15 and that's pretty much where they sit with six games remaining, with Souths behind only the Dragons and Melbourne on for-and-against percentages.
The Rabbitohs' nine-game winning streak was snapped in a surprise 22-6 loss to the Tigers last week, but that shouldn't stop them aiming for anything less than the minor premiership at this late stage of the season.
Ironically, the Eels are last-start winners, claiming just their fourth victory of the season with last's scrappy 14-8 defeat of fellow also-rans Canterbury.
The Eels scored three tries to the Bunnies' one in the first 23 minutes of that round 15 clash before Souths caught fire with six unanswered tries en route to a 42-24 triumph. If Parra can defend a bit better than they did that evening and score a similar amount of points, they are capable of giving Rabbitohs a proper scare.
Key match-up: Adam Reynolds has had consistency issues in recent years, but not this season. His you-do-your-bit-and-I'll-do-mine combination with Cody Walker has been a major factor in the Rabbitohs' ascension to the top of the ladder. They take turns doing their thing and have formed arguably the most effective halves duo in the competition. It's a big challenge for Mitch Moses and Corey Norman but the Eels' chances of springing a monumental upset will be a lot greater if Moses and Norman can over-shadow Reynolds and Walker.
For the Rabbitohs to win: No need to shift away from a formula that might've taken a month or so to click but has since proven to be highly effective, barring last week's loss to the Tigers. The Bunnies' big blokes up front make it hard for your forwards before their fleet-footed backs terrorise your backs, usually down their deadly left side. If the Eels aren't switched on defensively for 80 minutes they could be in serious trouble.
For the Eels to win: They found out the hard way in round 15 that a 35-minute effort doesn't cut it against the Bunnies. The Eels need to resort to every niggling, disruptive tactic in the book to keep the competition leaders from settling into a comfortable rhythm at any stage. If they can somehow frustrate the Rabbitohs and draw them into a close game, Parra might be a chance of pinching it.
Rabbitohs Stat Attack: Robert Jennings is the Telstra Premiership's leading tryscorer this season and has crossed six times in his past two games against Parramatta.
Eels Stat Attack: Halfback Mitchell Moses will bring up 100 NRL games on Saturday.
And another thing: Of all the attacking threats the Rabbitohs possess, maybe the greatest concern for the Eels is the dazzling form of winger Robert Jennings. His confidence grows with every game and Parra won't have forgotten how he tortured them with a four-try haul in the previous meeting. With his brothers Michael and George lining up for the Eels, the tight-knit Jennings clan will be out in force on Saturday night at ANZ Stadium.
Rabbitohs: South Sydney have named an unchanged 17.
Eels: David Gower returns on the bench replacing George Jennings in the 17, with Tepai Moeroa starting in the second row, Brad Takairangi moving from the bench to centre and Jarryd Hayne from centre to wing.
Head-to-head: Played 124; Rabbitohs 67 wins, Eels 54 wins, 3 draws Previous result: Rabbitohs won 42-24 at ANZ Stadium in round 15 Points per game: Rabbitohs 23.9; Eels 14.8 Points conceded per game: Rabbitohs 17.1; Eels 22.2 Televised: Live on Nine, Fox League
Petero Civoniceva's prediction: The Rabbitohs would've been disappointed that they weren't able to make John Sutton's 300th game a winning occasion last week against the Tigers. They'll also be hurting that their winning streak came to an end and I can see them bouncing back in a big way this week. The Eels finally got another win last week but it's hard to see them causing an upset.
Tip: Rabbitohs by 14

Rabbitohs dig deep to beat stubborn Eels
South Sydney rediscovered that winning feeling after running down a gallant Parramatta 26-20 on Saturday night at ANZ Stadium.
Anthony Seibold's men posted the first points of the evening in the 14th minute.
Classy centre Dane Gagai burst on to a slick pass from Damien Cook and was never going to be stopped close to the line.
Eels fullback Clint Gutherson made it 6-6 in the 28th minute after pouncing on a Corey Norman kick fumbled by Campbell Graham, and then slick individual efforts from veterans Jarryd Hayne and Michael Jennings gave the underdogs a shock 18-6 lead at halftime.
An early penalty goal extended Parramatta's lead to 14 points, only to then see South Sydney finally wake from their slumber.
Four pointers to Graham and Robert Jennings in the space of three minutes saw the Rabbitohs trailing 20-16, and when Gagai grabbed his second in the 67th minute, the pride of Redfern hit the front, 22-20.
Graham then sealed the comeback victory with an effort out wide in the dying stages.

South Sydney have survived a scare to overcome a 14-point deficit and beat cellar dwellers Parramatta 26-20 at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.
The Eels took advantage of playing with an extra man in the opening half to stroll to an 18-6 lead after Rabbitohs centre Hymel Hunt was sent to the sin-bin, stunning the pro-Rabbitohs crowd, who were celebrating John Sutton's 300th NRL appearance last week.
But the Bunnies worked their way back into the contest in the second half to lay on two quick tries before Dane Gagai's try with 12 minutes remaining gave the home team a two-point lead.
Souths moved to the top of the Telstra Premiership ladder temporarily with the victory but Rabbitohs coach Anthony Siebold will not be happy with his side's overall performance.
For the Eels, who were forced to play with 16 for most of the contest with Kaysa Pritchard leaving the field with a shoulder injury, it added more misery on the club looking to avoid the wooden spoon in 2018.
Pritchard came off second best in a tackle on Rabbitohs prop Tom Burgess and club doctors spent the opening half trying to pop the shoulder back into place. He'll have scans on Sunday to determine the extent of any structural damage.
South Sydney struck first with Damien Cook providing a crisp short ball for Gagai to cross for his first of the night, but the Rabbitohs were forced to defend their tails for the remainder of the first half as the Eels gained the upper hand.
Hunt was sent to the sin-bin after the Bunnies conceded five consecutive penalties on their line.
Parramatta took advantage of the extra man on the paddock to pile on two tries. Clint Gutherson landed on a Corey Norman cross-field kick before Hayne found open space on the back of a Peni Terepo short ball to weave his way around Alex Johnston in vintage fashion.
The momentum continued before the break with veteran centre Michael Jennings winding back the clock to wrestle past Hunt and score the visitors' third.
Both sides were denied close calls that led to tries in the second half which sparked the contest late in the game.
Hayne plucked a South Sydney pass out of the air to race 90 metres to score under the posts until replays showed a slight knock-on in the lead up.
The Rabbitohs were then denied a four-pointer of their own with Cody Walker touching down millimetres short of the try-line.
A strong hit from Sam Burgess on Terepo helped inspire his teammates and propel them to their fast finish.
Norman was next to be binned with the Eels penalised multiple times on their line in a huge game-changer. Graham sealed the win in the final minute with his second try in the corner.
News and Notes: Kaysa Pritchard (shoulder) left the field in the sixth minute ... Dane Gagai scored his first double since Round 1, 2015 ... Adam Reynolds became the second high point scorer in South Sydney's history ... Crowd: 15542.
