2 legends surrounded by the dredges of the rugby league competition. It was all due to the Emperor, what an asshole. The Emperor failed to replace Price and Cronin. Lindner wasn't anywhere near as good as Pricey and had no loyalty to the club. The glory years for any club will eventually end, but the real test is keeping the success coming. The Emperor was clueless after all the great players left. I read this last night, taken from Wikipedia - Lew Platz
At the end of 1980, Platz was told to find a new club by the newly appointed Jack Gibson. In 2017, Platz recalled being told the news he was no longer wanted at Parramatta saying “I played all the pre-season, including the last trial against Manly, when I had conjunctivitis, something I had never had before and have not had since,” Platz said. “I got a phone call at midnight after the game. ‘Jack here’. I thought it was captain Steve Edge [playing a trick]. “He said, "No, it’s Jack". I was an import, and you were only allowed 12. Jack said: "I thought I should ring you before you get tomorrow’s paper. I never graded you. I regard you as a first grader, but I’ve got a couple of blokes here I’m going to use more than you and I don’t think you want to play reserve grade. “I said "Jack, what a thing to do when I’m am import!". "He said, "I’ve been sacked by plenty of places and I’ve always come back, and you will. Somebody will find you", and he hung up.The club needs to take this approach to it's players. Sorry, but we only take the best!!

Lew Platz was a good player in Qld, but didnt do well at the Eels.
Jack Gibson was a genius coach who whatever he did worked. Those type of coaches are hard to find. I wish we could get another Jack Gibson type of coach who will improve the culture.

Wouldn't be easy telling a player they're no longer wanted, but he gave him good encouragement. Champion coach and human being.

Not to many like him any longer, the game has become too professional, where the personal touch just does not exist. Jack Gibson was great in every way.

Yeah, all the great coaches on and off the field are becoming extinct - Gibson, Bennett, Sheens, Gould etc Eels have a Janitor!! Can't believe we finally have a good team to support, but a coach that cannot complete the team. What a waste!!

you would think there has to be some young guys out there that need a chance and will prove worthwhile.
The janitor would be easy to replace as anyone could do better but I hope we get a really good one next time???

Judging players is easier because you view their performance on the field, but a coach is completely different. Definitely need a coach the players respect and look up to. I don't think the players care too much about the Janitor, they just say they do. It's more about the team.

I dont think player can really respect a coach that cant do what his title says he is.... I am sure they respect his janitorial duties.
There are no obvious choices for coach out there. They will probably have to sign an assistant at present and hope for the best. I know that has failed in the past, but maybe next time it will work out. Maybe even sign a current coach in England???

As long as the Eels have the Janitor, they won't even have a decent assistant coach, because a good assistant will show how ordinary this toilet flusher has become. The Janitor knows this and lives by this. Eels will hire a nobody as assistant who can easily be sacked instead. Stephen Kearney once coached at the Eels, that's embarrassing. I think good coaches are becoming extinct. Bennett and Bellamy are old school, so where are the latest crop of young decent coaches?

Like I said before, there are good young coaches out there somewhere. They just have to be discovered by someone with the ability to see that they have talent. I think the Eels lack that someone, so we are stuck with a person who judges the cleanliness of toilets rather than the ability of a player.
I think the Eels still have David Kidwell as an assistant defense coach, and he had proven to be a failure. The defense has not improved at all under his watch.

Who are all the available coaches right now? Wouldn't mind seeing a list if possible. Zero tackle only has players available. Agree, the defence coach has failed. Kidwell has no idea. That game against the Storm in the finals was embarrassing. Storm are a great offensive team, but they made the first half look to easy.

All the available coaches would not be big name coaches, but, there might be a gem somewhere in there.
Kidwell and the janitor need out. If the janitor goes they better not keep Kidwell around. He is pathetic.

He is pathetic. How bad is Kidwell, if he is an assistant to the Janitor. That's like being a third string coach, because the Janitor should really be an assistant, not a coach. The Eels must have been fooled by this taken from Wikipedia - In 2007 he was appointed the Melbourne Storm's NRL Development Coach. The side won the competition that year. In 2008 he was appointed the Melbourne Storm's inaugural Toyota Cup coach. The side won the 2009 grand final. In 2010 he was promoted to an assistant coach in Melbourne alongside Stephen Kearney.

Kidwell is a good as Kearney, that sums it all up for me. I have nothing more to say on this.
