Yes it is hard to fire a dud when the backup is proven even worse. Anyway I doubt that the Eels will make the 4 and struggle to make the 8 if they make it at all.

Barrett will get the face slapping happening which he learnt at the Dragons. Has the jnr janitor won a premiership as a player or coach? Once again the Eels employ someone that doesn't know how to win.

It is obvious that the turd only wants job security but why is front office going along with him on signing bigger duds than the turd himself? it is sheer stupidity.

I didn't even rate him as a player. Remember this game. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBPFp_Z2PdAEnded up a try. What a dumb ass.

I couldnt get that video but I always rated Barrett the most overrated player at the time he played. Barrett and Anasta were the most overrated players in the past 20 years. Dogs were that good in '04, they carried an ordinary player and won a premiership.

funny that both played for Australia but both were really hugely overrated.

funny that both played for Australia but both were really hugely overrated. Both could play, but they weren't anywhere near as good as the best during that time. Barrett was not a premiership winning player and even though Anasta won a title, he played terrible in that grand final and even said so after the game.

Lockyer was more than head and shoulders above both of them.

Lockyer was more than head and shoulders above both of them. Lockyer was a champion player and also stood tall at Origin. Not sure I believe that story the Eels had a chance of signing Lockyer at the start of his career.

I dont believe that at all Parramatta legend Steve Ella reveals the Eels botched the chance to sign Darren Lockyer as a 16-year-old Parramatta sensationally botched plans to sign Queensland skipper Darren Lockyer as a 16-year-old, Eels stalwart Steve Ella has revealed. Lockyer will break Allan Langer's Origin record with his 35th appearance on Wednesday night at ANZ Stadium - just 11km from where he made his Broncos Broncos debut at Parramatta Stadium in 1995. But Lockyer could easily have been snapped up by the Eels, and earned State of Origin eligibility with NSW, after Ella became the first scout to spot him as an unknown teen at a Queensland schoolboys carnival. A proud Queenslander who idolised Wally Lewis, Lockyer dreamed of representing the Maroons, making a NSW defection remote. But he has recalled the surprise approach from Parramatta. By playing his first senior football in NSW, Lockyer would have been eligible to play for the Blues and would no doubt have faced pressure early in his career to switch allegiance. Nicknamed "The Zip Zip Man", former NSW centre Ella later met with Lockyer and recommended him to Eels hierarchy, viewing the young playmaker as the ideal successor to retired Parramatta and Blues five-eighth great Brett Kenny. Ella says the Eels inexplicably ignored his advice, allowing Lockyer to slip the net and attract the attention of the Broncos - going on to become Queensland's most capped player in Origin II on Wednesday night. "After seeing Darren play, I came back to Parra management and I said, 'You need to sign this kid, he's the best I've ever seen'," said Ella. "Out of all the places I travelled to, he was miles ahead of any kid I saw in terms of how he read the game. I thought, 'God, this kid is a freak'. "I spoke to Darren after that carnival. I said, 'Are you interested in playing for Parra', and he said 'definitely'. I had no doubt the kid would make the grade. "But the Eels' management said they already had a five-eighth and I believe they never made the phone call (to Lockyer). "I was disappointed about it." Parramatta's five-eighth options at the time of Ella's approach to Lockyer in 1994 were Keith Blackett and Michael Buettner. The club's greatest five-eighth, Kenny, retired at the end of 1993, two years before Lockyer made his top-grade debut, ironically against the Eels in Brisbane's 60-14 victory. "I remember it," Lockyer said. "Steve Ella was the first guy to come and talk to my family. As a kid you knew the scouts who were watching and I remember the boys from Roma (where Lockyer grew up) would go to Sydney for trials. "It would have been a big move for me at that age and I was always keen to try my luck with the Broncos. It wasn't long after he (Ella) saw me that I got a scholarship with the Broncos and that's how it has played out." Fox Sports

The emperor once again ****ed up, not surprising to me because by then the Eels were a laughing stock. Why would a talented young guy want to go to a laughing stock anyway???
