Between 1976 qnd 1986 the Eels were making GF's and winning them as well, how can you go wrong with that era?
Today the US has a lot of problems as well. It is definitely a far from perfect world now.

It is definitely a far from perfect world now. That era was the best at everything including football. 1984 was an amazing year, Eels were triple premiers going into that season. Terrible world these days, and people are not what they used to be. People used to have talent and looked decent.

I have to say there are too many arrogant people and fast talking assholes these days, I dont know if that is the same in Australia. It seems every second person you meet these days is like a used car salesman.
Shame 1984 didnt end with 4 peat. It was horrible seeing those asshole dogs win.

I'd say a lot of bad DNA. I shouldn't say this but it's true, many people don't make the grade. Breeding needs to be regulated like everything else these days. Sterlo said about the 1984 grand final, not a game we should have won, but a game we could have won.

what you said has a bit of nazi-ism about it but I get what you are saying.
I was really drunk and cried when the Eels lost that GF. What made it harder was that it was against the dogs. I dont like to admit that but it was fact.

I dont like to admit that but it was fact. It does, looking for a pure race or humanity with not many faults, but take a look at people today. Although, you don't have to have Nazism to accomplish a decent society because society was more decent in the first half of the 20th Century. Our grandparents came from better times. Better standards. I was too young in '84 to drink, but I suffered in pain as well. I thought about that game for quite some time. Grand Final losses stand out more than wins.

GF wins are so easy to take but close losses are very hard to accept.

GF wins are so easy to take but close losses are very hard to accept. Grand final losses really hurt and it makes no difference if your team losses by 50 points or only 2. Very hard being an Eels fan 1998-2009. That decade was constant disappointment including two grand finals.

even though it wasnt a GF the hardest loss to ever take was the game against the dogs where they had the game won with 11 minutes to go and blew it.

Halligan was converting tries from the sideline right in front of me. 1998 was a good year for the Eels, beat the Broncos in the finals and were only 10 minutes away from a grand final but lost to the Dogs. Eels fans and colours were all over the stadium but in the last 10 Blue and White everywhere. You can download that game on YouTube which I find difficult to watch.

I cant watch that game and I find it embarressing. Halligan was an amazing kicker and after him El Masri was amazing as well.
Pretty embarressing to have the game won and blow it in an 11 minute period.

Pretty embarressing to have the game won and blow it in an 11 minute period. It was the biggest choke in the history of chokes. Winning by 16 points with 11 minutes until full time. Bulldogs scored 3 tries to level the scores. I can accept 2 tries being scored in 10 minutes but 3 is unacceptable and embarrassing. That's under 15's football.

I dont know how BS just made his teams choke. It was such a common occurrence under him though.

I dont know how BS just made his teams choke. It was such a common occurrence under him though. Players didn't think highly of him. Have you ever heard a player speak highly about the choker? Sterlo did with Jack Gibson and others about Wayne Bennett. Even Craig Bellamy was liked. The fact that the choker never coached a superstar like Johns, Fittler or Lockyer meant players of that greatness weren't attracted to BS.

The choker seemed like an asshole actually. I doubt I would have liked him if I was coached by him. The Eels have not had a match winning superstar since the late 80's.
